Biography

So here we come to summary once again.  A chance to distil the essence of our band into equal parts braggadocio, hyperbole, snappy lyrical phrasing, and the necessary abundance of influences, both obvious and obscure, to demonstrate our flair for the art of name-dropping, and perhaps even more importantly, our exceptional good taste.  And who am I to upset the established order?  Alas, it is once more into the breach, my dear friends.

Or perhaps not.  We are, after all, supposed to be grown-ups here.  You can be the judge of our particular brand of musical prowess.  Meanwhile, I’ll make an attempt to set out what we, as Edgar Prais, are all about, and what it is we hope to achieve.

In typically orthodox fashion, though boring, things are set in motion thus: great big music fans! turn kids with a dream; said dream is thrashed out in local haunts, before time and something akin to natural selection lend themselves to our protagonists becoming entwined.

Songs are written.  Friendships are solidified.  Transits are laden with guitars and drums.  Then it’s off down roads yonder, where there’s blood, sweat and tears aplenty - with the occasional din to ensure our sanities remain intact.  New friendships are struck up, before it’s goodbye, as we lean forward to more crazy ventures beneath the skies.  New songs are written.  Transits are laden Ö ad-infinitum.

And it’s all for the sake of the song.  That’s where our dedication lies.  Sure, a song might never set the world alight; but it can mean the world to a single someone.  A song can encapsulate our most poignant and affecting moments, and it can be a window straight into the past.  Who hasn’t found themselves inadvertently thrown to the dogs of some nostalgic whim!  (I say that as if it were a bad thing; I live for those little moments.)

The idea then, is to plough with toil in our chosen field.  Because, though it may be a wonderful notion that Dylan emerged from the womb, fully-formed, ready to bend the possibilities of popular song, it is but fancy.  Like carpentry, song-writing is a craft to be learnt in time; this may be at odds with the current climate, but then that can only be a positive thing, right?  To be an autonomous entity, in an age of increasing homogeneity amongst the upper-echelons of the business.

Of course, that said, we’re far from innovative trailblazers.  We rely more upon a timeless, popular approach; that need not be something negative.  Even Fellini began with a somewhat linear approach to narrative.

So here’s to writing and singing songs; to capturing our hopes and dreams, our doubts and fears and everything in-between, whilst having a whole lot of fun in doing so.  It may sound all so overly earnest, but so be it.
